All taxis are metered and operate on fixed tariffs. The taxi sign can be clearly seen on the roof of the vehicle.
Alcohol is widely available at bars, restaurants, hotels, and clubs, however you cannot purchase alcohol from a supermarket. It is against the law to drink alcohol in the street or public places.
Normally 10% is considered the correct amount, but is not obligatory.
People in the UAE dress conservatively in public areas. Swimwear is acceptable only at the beach or around the swimming pool. Shorts and t-shirts are common, but when visiting mosques, religious sites, or older parts of the city loose-fitting clothing that covers shoulders, arms, and legs is considered more appropriate.
Casual attire and comfortable shoes are essential for sightseeing. In line with local custom, we would urge you to wear modest clothing at all times.
So as not to offend the local community it is best to avoid visible cleavage, hot pants, tank-tops and tight fitted or see-through materials.
Smart or smart -casual is required, with no ripped jeans, flip-flops, sneakers/runners or shorts. Women are required to wear a headscarf. Please see the dress code at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque for ladies and gents.
